Employers got a taste of what it's like to be a Global Viking as the 934th Airlift Wing hosted Employers Day Aug. 6. The event is held to provide civilian employers of Reservists with a little bit of insight into the mission of the 934 AW and to learn about what Reservists do on their drill weekends.

Also providing support for the event were members of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers. They also assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment.

Employers met with Col. Anthony Polashek, 934th Airlift Wing commander, where they received details of the day-to-day operations and maintenance of an Air Reserve Station and the mission of the 934th Airlift Wing.

The highlight of the day was the employer’s opportunity to experience a flight in a C-130 Hercules over the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and Long Island lighthouse.

“This was a great outing,” said Razvan Atanasiu, CTO of Healthcare for Lexmark’s Enterprise Software division in Bloomington, Minn. “It was wonderful to get some insight into your excellent operation and
meet so many awesome Air Force Reserve members.”

Closing out the event was a demonstration by the 934th Explosive Ordinance Disposal Flight and a sit-down lunch with employers and their Wing member representatives.

Another employers day is planned for August of next year to continue to expose more employers of Reservists to the mission of the 934 AW.
