Col. Todd J. McCubbin, 934th Airlift Wing commander, shared his final thoughts from his time with the Global Vikings during an interview here Oct. 4.
When reflecting on first arriving here, McCubbin recalled a sincere welcome by the men and women of the 934th.

"What I remember most about the time we arrived was the warm welcome that we had," McCubbin said.  "As fellow Minnesotan's, for my wife and I, coming back home to the warm welcome and being embraced as part of the wing right from the get go was truly a nice welcome."

Though the wing has a history of stellar accomplishments, during his time here McCubbin is most proud of one thing.
"My proudest accomplishment at the 934th is the 2015 Air Force Reserve Command IG Capstone Inspection," he said.  "That inspection validated all of the great things we've done and continue to do here and we set the benchmark for the rest of the command."

After being here for nearly four years, McCubbin has loved being back home and is certainly going to miss the 934th.

"What I will miss most about the 934th are the people," he explained.  "The people here are truly exceptional and they really care about what they do.  They have that Midwestern pride and it's the people of the 934th that I will miss most.
Extremely proud of the men and women of the 934th, as he prepares to depart, McCubbin has certainly left his mark on the Global Vikings.

"The legacy that I hope I've left at the 934th is instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment in our wing members because they definitely deserve that recognition and they have done an outstanding job here at the 934th during my tenure.  I hope they carry that in the future," he said proudly.
Additionally, McCubbin recommends that the next commander trust the people to continue towards a path of excellence.

"My advice to the next commander, whoever he or she is, would be to set the vision of where you want this wing to go and empower the people," he said.  "This wing, with the quality of people we have, can take the incoming commander wherever they want to go.

The 934th will forever be with the colonel as his time here has helped shape his future and the wing has had a lasting impact on him.

"Being a member of the 934th will definitely shape my career and it already has," he expounded.  "The positive impact of working with the people, being able to be one of them and lead this wing to where it is now, is truly, and will be, one of my proudest accomplishments.  I think the experience I've had will definitely take me into the future regardless of whether it's retirement or another job after the next one."

Before departing, McCubbin expressed his gratitude to the men and women of the 934th.

"The final message that I have for the men and women of the 934th is just thank you for everything.  I'm extremely proud of this wing and I hope you are too.  I wish you all the best in the future."
