The 934th Airlift Wing Communications Flight officially became the Communications Squadron during a re-designation ceremony Jan 7.

Lt. Col Rick Erredge, 934th Communications Squadron commander, assumed command of new squadron with the ceremonial acceptance of the new Communications Squadron guidon from Col. Michael Ochs, 934th Mission Support Group commander.

The designation of squadron from flight comes as the communications Air Force Specialty Codes became converted to cyber operations; the communications network was designated a weapons system, and that weapon system is being migrated into the Air Force Network.

With the larger scope of operations, the personal requirements also expanded evolving the flight into a squadron. Colonel Erredge said, "Change is a common thread in our business and our unit has been a prime example of how to be successful under constant forces of change."

Tech. Sgt. Terry Neff, client systems craftsman, feels the change will increase effectiveness.  "The re-designation gives us parallel personnel and resources which helps further the Air Force Cyber Command mission in the defense of our nation."
